Awesome Harley WL from 1948

Patrick, a Helmet Hair reader from Belgium sent me some photos of his motorcycle. It took him about two years to build, but the result is pretty neat if you ask me.

Here’s what Patrick told me about the bike.

“Lets start on top with the headlight , from a old bicycle ( converted to 12 v) ; removed the speedo and choose for oilpressure and very clean holder made by our famouse Belgian bike builder Fred”Krugger”Bertrand www.krugger.net

The engine and transmission are completly rebuild (hardware incl) ! Standard (!) bore new cylinders and pistons. Cylinderheads changed from 5:1 to i think about 6,25:1and some more flow.Really works !
Mikuni carb (34mm) with k&n air filter ! Manifold some better flow aswell.
The biggest problem to make it a little faster are the cams ; so after ordering 3 times by 3 different suppliers we decided to make them our selfs ! My friend Tom from (Luyckxmotorshop ) did a very fine job on this !

First i had a magneto on it , but after a while i decided to change it to a ignition (Malory) and little battery , much easier starting ! Also changed the wheels from 16 to 18 inch with bridgestone batlax tires !

The bike is fast and very fun to drive ! Topspeed around 90mph!”

Check out the photos of the bike below.

There’s more photos of the bike here. Thanks to Patrick for sharing this with us.

    hi ,
I don’t think your still intrested after hearing the total costs i made on this bike ! It was not my intention building a bike for selling ! Even i can’t believe i spend so much on it . But working on it for 2 years makes the pain a little less (financial)! And driving this thing makes me forgett it all !!! Regards from Belgium,
    Patrick
